What is the Nutcracker Suite?
The Nutcracker Suite is a ballet production based on E.T.A. Hoffmann's story "The Nutcracker and the Mouse King." It is typically performed during the holiday season and has become a beloved tradition in many countries. The ballet tells the story of a young girl named Clara who receives a magical nutcracker doll on Christmas Eve. The doll comes to life, and Clara embarks on a whimsical journey filled with enchanting characters, including the Sugar Plum Fairy and the Mouse King. The Nutcracker Suite features beautiful choreography, iconic music composed by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky, and elaborate sets and costumes, creating a captivating and magical experience for both performers and audiences. The Nutcracker Suite premiered in Russia in 1892 and has been a beloved holiday classic ever since.
Age Requirement and Participation Information
For Ages 5 and Up
The Nutcracker Suite performance is open to students enrolled at VOLTA ages 5 and up who also participate in the Nutcracker Dance Intensive in August. This is a great chance for young dancers to showcase their skills on stage!
Participation Is Key
To take part in the Nutcracker Suite performance, dancers MUST participate in the Nutcracker Dance Intensive in August, attend weekly rehearsals starting September 9th, and be enrolled for classes at VOLTA

Note that participation in the performance is dependent on your child's enrollment in our August Nutcracker Dance Intensive. This intensive program will provide valuable training and preparation for the performance. It will immerse your child in the magical story of the Nutcracker, while also honing their skills in acting and ballet pantomime. It will ensure that your child not only develops the necessary technical abilities but also gains the confidence to shine on stage.
The Nutcracker Dance Intensive will take place every Sunday in August 2023, from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM These weekly sessions will be dedicated to learning choreography, refining technique, and developing the necessary skills for the Nutcracker Suite performance.

If you do not want to participate in the show, but would like your child to attend the Nutcracker Intensive only, you are welcome to do so, Price for Intensive ONLY is $300
Nutcracker Rehearsals

Rehearsals for the December performance will begin on September 9th and will take place every Saturday from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM. These rehearsals will focus on perfecting the performance as a whole, including group formations, stage transitions, and synchronization. **Students must also be enrolled in weekly dance classes to ensure they are keeping up with their technique**

Reducing Fees
Participating in the Nutcracker Dance Intensive and Suite Performance grants your child a discount for our Annual Recital in May. This discount will help reduce recital fees, making it a more affordable and enjoyable experience for all.
Donations Welcome
If you can't attend the performance but still would like to support our dancers, you can make a donation towards reducing recital fees. Every little bit counts!
